November 2024 Community College Services Legal Update

The November 2024 Community College Services Legal Update is now available.

Notable decisions and actions in this issue include:

• The U.S. Department of Labor exceeded its authority by adopting the 2024 Minimum Salary Rule under the FLSA.
• Student organizations at universities that had updated their speech policies to address the Texas governor’s executive order GA-44 on antisemitism provided sufficient evidence to overcome dismissal of their claims that the actions taken by university officials under the policies violate the U.S. Constitution First Amendment.
• The OMA attorney consultation closed meeting exception applies to consultation with an attorney about potentially retaining the attorney’s law firm.
